A: Sharp HealthCare is deeply committed to nursing and to solving the nursing shortage with quality education options. All on-site clinical work will be conducted exclusively at Sharp HealthCare facilities throughout San Diego. These facilities are state-of-the-art, making them ideal for online/on-site programs.[top]
Q: Is this an independent or self-study program?
A: No. Theory classes take place through interactive online courses led by OU faculty. Classes have weekly requirements and threaded discussions with a community of students. Face-to-face clinical training takes place on-site at Sharp HealthCare facilities throughout San Diego. [top]
Q: How long does it take?
A:

If all prerequisites are complete, the Accelerated Second Degree BSN Program takes approximately 14 months. This consists of more than 600 hours of online course work and 900 hours of hands-on clinical work.

The Career Mobility Program takes approximately nine months to complete, encompassing 245 hours of online work and 480 hours of clinical experience. [top]

Q: When do I start the clinical work?
A:

Clinicals begin at the same time as your online course work. Your clinical work starts in a comprehensive clinical nursing lab. It closely resembles a real-world setting, and allows you to feel comfortable while you learn. Soon after, you begin working with patients, families and other nurses. [top]

Q: Can I keep my full-time job?
A: This depends on the student, but it is discouraged. While the programs are flexible, there are specific requirements and schedules. Additionally, because the programs are accelerated, they are highly intensive and require commitment and focus. [top]
Q: Will I be learning during the day or evening?
A: You are likely to spend about 40 hours a week (or more) doing your online studies and clinical work. However, the online learning is day or night — your choice! Simply complete any course requirements within the assigned time frame. For your clinical work, the days, times and locations will vary. [top]

A: Nursing is a technologically advanced career, so use of technology is essential. The program is designed to be highly intuitive and easy to use, and there is online support and training to help you at every step. [top]
